herb of the year

2023 - Ginger
2022 - Violet/Pansy

HERBFEST – MidSummer Herbfest is on the grounds of Waba Cottage Museum & Gardens annually on the last Sunday of July  (RAIN OR SHINE)

9:00 am-4:00 pm

This celebration of healthy living brings fabulous local artisans, farms and other vendors to the stunning grounds of the historic Waba Cottage Museum and Gardens in White Lake.  Live music, workshops and tours offer visitors from across Ottawa and the Valley a vibrant outdoor festival experience.

In past years, over 2000 people have made Herbfest the event of the summer, and organizers anticipate a similar turnout this year.  Spencer Scharf, Alan Wright and Kevin Harrison will grace the main stage throughout the day.  Visitors can get gorgeous henna tattoos, learn about meditation and breathwork, participate in a circle dance, enjoy the lake on a pontoon boat ride, sample delicious local eats, and cool off with a beverage at the beer tent.

Vendors include produce and meat from local farms, herbs and plants, soaps and self-care products, gifts and hand-crafted items, jewelry and more!

Admission is free, and ample parking is available onsite.

MidSummer Herbfest went VIRTUAL in 2021 and 2020, see below:

A Message from the MidSummer Herbfest Committee:

In no particular order, we love summer, taking care of our earth and herbs. From day to day, we use herbs for remedies, savoury food garnishes and spiritual purposes.

The museum is currently OPEN to the public.

Waba Cottage Museum and Gardens has a collection of five historic museum buildings nestled in 8 acres of lovely gardens on the scenic shore of White Lake. An ancient Scottish Clan Chief ruled the roost here with an iron fist. Laird Archibald McNab brought over settlers and subjugated them to medieval feudal terms for almost 20 years.

Our vintage buildings have their stories. The stone house echoes Archibald’s reign of error. The log church, schoolhouse, dairy barn and display building offer unique insights into the daily lives of our early residents.

In the 1970s, whale bones were discovered within 2 kilometres of our location. Today, these are important clues in a 2019 breaking news story that spans 12,000 years. New theories about comet strikes, melting ice caps, inland polar oceans, continental wildfires, mass extinctions of man, mammoths and other large mammals are attributed to this ‘bad day’.
