The term ‘herb’ is an accepted abbreviation of ‘herbaceous plant’.
Their use spans time and cultures.

Herbs can be used in a variety of ways including culinary, medicinal, spiritual
and landscaping applications.

Culinary herbs are used in small amounts to provide flavor to food such as
rosemary, sage and thyme. Herbs were a commodity of trade between
historical civilizations in Asia, Northeast Africa and Europe. Today, tea plays
an important role in our day to day lives.

Some herbs have medicinal qualities. In today’s culture, modern medicine is
taking a closer look at long established folk and cultural remedies that use
herbs. Some examples include St. John’s Wort, Ginseng and Echinacea.

In some religions, herbs play an important role. In the Bible’s Christmas
story, the Three Wise Men presented gifts of myrrh, frankincense and gold to
the infant Jesus.

Using herbs in the landscape is a way to add color, texture and aroma while
attracting bees and butterflies.

Waba Cottage was born with a dark and stormy past.

Scottish feudal Laird Archibald McNab ruled here with an iron fist in the early
1800s. On the settlers’ backs, he made and squandered his fortunes.

Today, it is a relaxing, beautiful and historical setting nestled in the Ottawa

In this charming 8 acre lakeside park, you will find 11 themed gardens and 5
buildings of historic interest. Facilities include picnic tables in a quiet maple
grove, mobility accessibility to buildings and a boat launch to White Lake.

Please consider these items on your ‘what to bring list’. Hats, shade
umbrellas, lawn chairs, sunscreen and a camera. As an eco-option, we
suggest that you bring a refillable water container. We will provide a tap with
drinking water and rinsing station. Bottled water will also be on sale.
